An article I wrote for The LaSallian's group simulation for the summer batch of EB hopefuls. It's for a lampoon (spoof) issue. :D It's barely decent, I know. I don't watch the show so I had to rely on Wikipedia for the setting. O well.
The Philippine-med-school-bashing TV series from America is back with even more racist punch lines! In an attempt to whitewash ABC’s xenophobic infamy, Kazakhstani Borat Sagdiyev (Sacha Baron Cohen), the host of the award-winning documentary Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, moves into Wisteria Lane to learn more on American culture and of course, look for another wife. Upon arrival, Borat is immediately smitten by the young Dylan Mayfair (Lyndsy Fonseca), another newcomer to Wisteria Lane and daughter of newly-separated Katherine Mayfair (Dana Delany). Borat is instantly attracted to her brown hair, green eyes, and her barely legal charm. Borat then attempts to kidnap her in her house while her mother was out. He enters the Mayfair house and grabs Dylan with the sack. Carrying the sacked dame on his shoulder, he runs out of the house, only to be stopped by Dylan’s step father Adam Mayfair (Nathan Fillion), who left Wisteria Lane earlier but happened to forget something at the house. Borat has been reported to the police and is arrested. A month later, Borat escapes from prison and plots his revenge. The following night, he hijacks an ice cream truck which he filled with explosives and heads straight back to Wisteria Lane. The moment he was at the front of the Mayfair house, he detonates the ice cream truck, taking his own life with him. Everyone in the show dies and the show finally ends. Truly, ABC needs to be commended for not only providing enough twists and turns for this show to continue leading the ratings board, but also giving effort into representing faithfully the minorities in the United States: the African-American Whiteapple family who are entangled in various crimes, the Filipino-American medical professionals whose education is questionable, the suicide bombing Middle Eastern people and finally, the sociopath closeted homosexuals whose reason for breathing is to displease their mothers. Indeed, Desperate Housewives truly show how accepting Americans are of other cultures and how they embrace diversity. This is probably why the show is still leading in many countries.
